Sighing

In this exercise, I fake a sigh. It activates my breathing muscles similarly to when I sigh spontaneously. I exercise both mouth and nose, sighing.

The way I exercise ‘mouth sighing.’

  • Breathing: inhale nose, exhale mouth.
  • Position: I stand up with a straight back and close my eyes.
  • Reset my breathing.
  1. Inhale through my nose fully in 3 parts.
  2. Exhale through an open mouth while saying ahhhhhhhhh until I get to minimum diaphragm amplitude.
  3. Repeat for a few rounds.

The way I exercise ‘nose sighing.’

  • Breathing: exclusive through the nose.
  • Position: I stand up with a straight back and close my eyes.
  • Reset my breathing.
  1. Inhale fully in 3 parts.
  2. Exhale deeply, with sealed lips, ‘saying’ ahhhhhhhhh until I get to minimum diaphragm amplitude.
  3. Repeat for a few rounds.

Remarks

People sigh unconsciously to balance, express satisfaction, or because of other emotions. There are many shades of sighing, but the two basic sighs are melancholic or exuberating. By sighing, I release, discharge, self-comfort, and balance.

The way I sigh is unique and is part of my breathing identity.
