In this exercise, I create a straight jacket effect by hugging myself and limiting my lung expansion. The exercise simulates restricted breathing.
The way I exercise ‘straight jacket’ breathing
- Breathing: exclusive through the nose.
- Position: I sit comfortably with a straight back, relax my tongue and jaw, and close my eyes.
- Reset my breathing.
- Hug myself so that my palms cover my shoulders.
- Inhale, fully in 3 parts against the restriction.
- Exhale deeply in 3 parts.
- Hold my breath and turn my body from side to side.
- Repeat for a few rounds.
Remarks
The self-hugging with my hands half circling my upper body makes it difficult to inflate my ribcage. The resistance strengthens my ribcage and chest breathing muscles.
