Yogititis Disease
Yoga has many health benefits, but we should be aware that if we pass our limits and go to extremes, we may be causing ourselves damage. We may get the disease that I call “Yogititis”, which is damages to the body, caused by overdoing.
When practicing Yoga, we are meant to get to postures and stretch ourselves up to the point where there is no extreme-tension and absolutely no pain. The idea behind Yoga is to make slow progress, by getting close to our limits but not passing them.
Many of us have a tendency to try and improve and get better in the things we do and Yoga is no exception. Sometimes, in an effort to feel that we are advancing, we may for example, stretch ourselves beyond our body-limits. Something like trying to “win over Yoga”. It is not just a beginners-problem, also experienced practitioners sometimes get carried away.
Body flexibility is different from one person to another. It depends, among other things, on our genetics and also on how we preserve our flexibility as we grow older.
With time, we may lose some of the abilities that we had in earlier stages of our lives. It is important to be aware, to check and to adopt to the limitations that come with age. Failing to do so, may lead to damages in the body.
