In this exercise, I hyperventilate mainly by speed, inhaling and exhaling rapidly, pushing my chin by opening and closing my clasped hands. My elbows move up and down as I alternate between exhaling and inhaling. The arms create two triangles that flap—similar to a butterfly’s wings. Once I start to feel tongue tingling, I hold my breath.
The exercise pulls me between two extremes, one caused by hyperventilation and the other by a breath hold.
Note: The intensive back-and-forth tilting of my head makes it more challenging to identify my tongue sensation.
